Lucy Kent

Biography

Lucy Kent is a British artist based in North Wiltshire, where she lives and works surrounded by the landscapes that inspire her practice. Originally trained in portraiture, Kent’s artistic direction evolved following a return from city life to the countryside of her upbringing. There, she developed a deeply personal connection to the natural environment and began teaching herself to paint the landscapes around her.

Working primarily in oil, both en plein air and from the studio, Kent creates paintings that are direct and immediate responses to place. Her work captures the transient qualities of shifting light, expansive skies, and the subtle interplay of colour across wide, open terrain. Combining expressive knife work with fluid brushstrokes, her paintings are energetic, immersive, and rich in atmosphere.

Travel also plays an important role in Kent’s practice. Painting trips to destinations including Italy, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, and Kenya have broadened her visual language, infusing her work with a sensitivity to diverse landscapes and light conditions. Whether close to home or further afield, Kent’s work reflects a consistent engagement with the vitality and movement of the natural world.
