Tahar Afshar

Biography

Taha Afshar is an internationally exhibited British painter and sculptor, born in Winchester in 1983 and currently based in Hampshire, England, where he continues to live and work.

Afshar’s practice is rooted in an exploration of light, understood both in its physical presence and its metaphysical resonance. This focus runs through his landscape and figurative works, where light becomes both subject and language, shaping atmosphere, form, and meaning.

He studied Art and History of Art at Winchester College before going on to graduate from University College London, where he also completed a PhD. His academic background informs a practice that bridges visual inquiry with conceptual depth, while remaining grounded in the sensorial experience of painting and sculpture.

Afshar has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally. Notable exhibitions include presentations at Cadogan Contemporary and the Jonathan Cooper Gallery in 2016. In 2017, he exhibited alongside artists such as Y.Z. Kami and Monir Farmanfarmaian in Garden of Mystery at Asia House, London, an exhibition supported by a panel from the British Museum and the Courtauld Institute of Art. He was shortlisted for both the Sunny Art Prize and the Royal Society of Marine Artists Awards in 2018, and has since shown work in institutions across Italy, Moscow, and Germany.
