Alistair Carr b. 1970

Alistair Carr is an artist born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1970 and raised in Scotland and England. His practice is shaped by a life of travel and close observation of diverse landscapes and cultures, forming the foundation of a visual language grounded in direct experience.

Carr spent part of his early life travelling extensively through Western and Eastern Europe before embarking in his late twenties on a formative journey to Outer Mongolia, where he lived among steppe and taiga nomads. During this period, he drew and painted on location, developing a practice rooted in movement, encounter, and lived observation of remote environments.
