Helen Baines

Biography

Helen Baines is a British artist whose practice explores the emotional and narrative qualities of landscape, and the ways in which place is shaped by memory, story, and personal geography. Working through a slow and reflective painting process, she seeks not the bucolic ideal, but more elusive, peripheral sensations—something felt just beyond clear perception.

Her work is held in collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum Print Archive, Scarborough Art Gallery and Museum’s Trust, and Art Acumen (Freshfields Annual Exhibition). She has received awards including the Printmakers Council Prize (2021) and the John Purcell Paper Prize (2019).

Baines studied BA (Hons) Graphic Design at Epsom School of Art (now UCA) and holds a BTEC HND in Art and Design from Richmond upon Thames College. She has continued her development through Turps programmes (2021–2026) and The Art Academy London Printmaking Certificate.
