Martin Greenland b. 1962
Greenland has built a distinguished career over several decades, with work exhibited widely across the UK and internationally. In 2006 he was awarded first prize in the John Moores Painting Prize at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool—one of Britain’s most prestigious awards for contemporary painting, with past winners including David Hockney and Peter Doig.
In 2003 he was commissioned to produce a painting of the newly rebuilt Paternoster Square, London, adjacent to St Paul’s Cathedral. The work was presented to the Lord Mayor of London and is now part of the collection at the Mansion House.
His exhibitions include leading galleries such as The Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh, Castlegate House Gallery in Cumbria, and Portland Gallery in London. He is President of the Lake Artists Society (LAS), a position he has held since 2024, and has been a member since 1998.
Greenland’s work is deeply informed by his life in the northern landscape, where he continues to live and paint.
