Provenance
Winifred Nicholson and by family descent.
Winifred Nicholson first visited Greece in 1933 and returned many times during her life, often visiting with her daughter Kate. (Although, on principle, they did not go during the ‘Regime of Colonels,’, 1967-74). She was captivated by the the brilliance of the hellenic light, the clarity of colour, and the simplicity of rural life. Greece offered Winifred a new kind of natural beauty - wildflowers, ancient ruins, and wide open landscapes.
