This painting is rooted in my ritual of walking through the Suffolk landscape and returning to places that seem to hold a particular sense of energy and presence. Since discovering this place near my studio, I walk there often, and for me, it is a grounding process. On this day, I was drawn to a view that felt familiar, as though the landscape already contained the atmosphere of one of my paintings. While the work began with observation, it developed through memory and imagination, allowing the landscape to shift into something more internal.
