Fishponds Park is a nature reserve with a sloping meadow, scattered with old fruit trees, there are tall, great horse Chestnuts and Ash trees on one side. The day I spent there drawing, followed a day of showers and hailstorms, and the freshly watered landscape was glowing. This meadow, full green in May, is charged with life and future blooming, poised to launch a multitude of summer flowers.
What were a few scattered longer stems, emerging above the shorter thicker grass, are now thronging, animated, packed out with dancing seed heads; visible like glitter and haze. There are specks of purple, and early in the morning the air is tinged with lilac and green.
