I was initially struck by the dark silhouette of the tree line of Alders against the bright, contre-jour light of an early morning sun. The last weeks of May were forecast with mostly cloud and rain, but I found a pocket of sunlight one morning between 6am and 9am, which would give me just enough time to hurriedly set out a painting in the fields nearby my home. The land is mostly agricultural here, but these particular fields also play host to walkers, horse riders and young families cooling off in the shallow river that winds its way through. I enjoy working at pace, aiming to catch an effect of the light -all the while the sun rises and clouds shimmer across my vision and out of frame.
