Painted from one of the sandy tracks crossing Frensham Common, this work looks towards the Little Pond through a landscape of open heath, Scots pines and distant views of the Surrey Hills. Beyond lie the Devil’s Jumps and the nearby Frensham Flashes, places steeped in local folklore and history.
Part of a wider heathland network linked to Hankley and Thursley Commons, Frensham is a nationally important habitat supporting a rich diversity of wildlife. Sand lizards, adders, grass snakes, nightjars, woodlarks and Dartford warblers all find refuge here, while the unmistakable call of the cuckoo carries across the heath in spring.
The Scots pine, a defining feature of the landscape, stands resilient against shifting weather and changing seasons, embodying the enduring character of this remarkable heathland.
