This painting was made on Hampstead Heath following a storm, close to a site where John Constable painted several of his sky studies. The work engages with this historical lineage whilst bringing it into dialogue with my own concerns.
The painting seeks to capture the transient atmosphere of the landscape, particularly the changing effects of fading light. Areas of the sky and land were painted and then partially dissolved using solvent. Through this process, the tree line appears to break down and merge with the sunset behind it, suggesting a landscape in a state of transition.
