This painting was inspired by the huge Norwich to Tilbury electricity pylons planned to dominate the landscape near my home in Forncett, South Norfolk. The countryside depicted here is a living place of birds, trees, wildlife, fields and communities, yet it faces permanent change from infrastructure on an industrial scale.
The ghost-like pylons woven into the trees reflect how their presence is already being felt before construction has even begun. I painted this piece to capture both the beauty of the landscape as it is now and the uncertainty surrounding its future. It is a reminder that progress, in this case renewable energy, leaves its mark on the land, its wildlife, and the people who call it home.
