Knepp Hawthorn was painted on a sunny, blue sky day at the Knepp Rewilding project in Sussex. With storks circling overhead, deer roaming free and the bushes buzzing with life. The hawthorn blossom attracted me because i knew it would soon be over, so i picked a place to set up and paint with that particular tree in view. I love the expressive branches and shape of a hawthorn when its in blossom . This particular spot had lots of different types of trees and shades of green, brambles and interestingly shaped dried twigs. The sun was high so the grassy patches seemed ultra bright. It wasn't a perfect view but it was exciting to paint.
