"On the banks of the River Fromus in Sternfield, Suffolk, there is a small triangle of woodland. It can only be seen from the roadside and it has no has no apparent owner. It is unmanaged and impenetrable and has an aura of timelessness. I often stand here to ponder the changing seasons and it has become the subject or backdrop for many paintings.

In May the early morning sunlight floods through the fresh spring foliage and turns it almost luminous. In sharp contrast the dark green ivy-clad trees appear still and silhouetted in deep shadow. Dappled shade falls on the tangled undergrowth revealing secret pathways, maybe created by deer or badgers."
