I painted at a spot along the Warwickshire Avon just below the weir where I like to fish. I love how the fast flowing river with reeds and trees on either side meanders downstream and I find it a very relaxing place to be at one with nature. I have enjoyed painting this location several times, so I decided to revisit the spot to create my 'Day in May' painting. Using oil on a plywood board I painted plein-air to complete the piece in a single session of around three hours. I wanted to create a sense of place by painting quickly and using expressive brushstrokes to suggest the movement of water and the trees blowing in the wind.
