I focused on the contrast of light and...I'm always drawn to how light filters through trees, how it dances and lands in puddles of light in the dense woods. I focused on the contrast of light and dark, and the way the path pulls you forward, into the composition. The subject is ordinary, but in the act of painting it I reflect on human presence in empty spaces, the transient nature of life, the theatre of the everyday. The strength and vibrancy of the light sets the mood.
