I was fortunate to join the Andrew Gifford day at Knepp Estate in May. Having seen a lake on a map I set off to find it but was captivated on route by various wonderful subject matter, from the Exmoor ponies hiding under a giant oak and then to these beautiful barns glowing in the hot midday heat. The proportions were perfect, the elder in flower was popping and the adjacent tiled barn made a great contrast. Trees have always been a focus of my work and the trees beyond the barns were a delightful array of a summer landscape, complete with bare, dead ash and heavy leaved oaks.
