There is something haunting about the Martello Tower that sits quietly and majestic looking out to sea on the Bawdsey Peninsula.
Martello towers were built along the Suffolk coast in the early 19th century in anticipation of Napolean’s invasion and their circular footprints and fragments survive in the landscape like ghosts from the past.
I pass the tower most days walking to the bay below and each time I am drawn to its simply beauty and timeless presence.
It’s panoramic backdrop shifts with the tides and the shingle from grey and melancholic to dramatic and iridescent.
Martello W, and its everchanging light continues to give me pause to reflect, and this May Moonrise was a special moment I had to try and capture.
