It is a secretive place and has been left to become wild and almost impenetrable with undergrowth in Spring. The earth here is good to use as paint and there are numerous badger setts like dark caves along the sides of the dell, some hidden by tree roots and tangled branches. Pightle is an old English word referring to a small piece of enclosed land and it is intriguing to think what this place may once have been. I can feel completely hidden in Pightle Dell and I love the sense of mystery it has both in it's location, it's character and in it's history.
