My inspiration came from the bucolic countryside landscape of Paudalho, a rural area about 50 km from the city centre of Recife. The biome of my homeland is very diverse, with patches of virgin forest contrasting with vast areas of bare earth. Some local residents of not own cars or motorbikes and still travel and work on horseback. During my month-long stay in my hometown, I made a point of visiting places that held great sentimental value for me – places that would take me back to the heart of my memories and bring me closer to my history and my roots. One of these places is Paudalho, as well as Aldeia and Camaragibe. I didn’t capture this scene with a camera, but I etched it into my memory. The following day, I returned to the same spot and began painting the board. I finished the painting during the residency, back in the studio, in a two-hour session, without stopping. Before I knew it, it was finished – as quickly as the random lightning-shaped clouds in the painting.
