John Caple's new exhibition, The Deserted Garden explores the poetic space between landscape and dream. Taking inspiration from his childhood in Somerset and the Cotswolds, where his Father worked as a head gardener, John Caple's richly atmospheric paintings recall the mazes, waterfalls, topiary avenues, and hidden woodland, all the places that felt magical and mysterious to a child. These gardens, both real and imagined, re-emerge in Caple’s paintings as half-remembered spaces: apothecary gardens, physic gardens, forest sanctuaries, and secret enclosures filled with myth and memory.
