Ben Risk b. 1978
Ben Risk is a British artist born in Glasgow, Scotland. He studied Contemporary Craft (Fine Art) at Manchester Metropolitan University, graduating with a BA (Hons) in 2002. He currently lives and works in Devon, UK.
Risk’s lyrical paintings are deeply rooted in memory, weaving together natural and personal histories through vivid colour and a strong sense of material presence. His reimagined landscapes act as emotional records of time’s passage, exploring what it means to be human through scenes that are both intimate and expansive. Rich in colour and raw texture, his work often feels like a reflection on lived experience filtered through imagination.
Risk’s work has been exhibited widely, including inclusion in Telescope, a group exhibition curated by Nigel Cooke at the former Jerwood Gallery (now Hastings Contemporary), alongside artists such as Rita Ackermann, Flora Yukhnovich, Andrew Cranston, and Geraldine Swayne. His practice continues to explore the intersections of memory, imagination, and chance as defining forces in the construction of lived experience.
