In Forgotten Waters' is a painting depicting where Hong Kong's mountains, and the small pond that streams from this vegetation, meets the beach. Having spent the majority of my childhood in the northern end of Discovery Bay where this intersection is located, I often visit this beach growing up and every few years when I returned home. However, particularly in the years following the pandemic, this small local beach became sparsely visited. The landscape appeared isolated and forgotten with both organic and man-made debris such as washed up fish and plastic caps littering the beach. In this painting, I incorporated more of an imagined and nostalgic approach as I reminisced on the beach bathed in the summer sun that I remembered from my childhood.
