It is a short, steep sided gorge in the chilterns that has the protective cloak of vegetation in the centre, creating an enclosed space that has neolithic remains.
This painting of the chalky grasslands in the foreground, undulating down to the flat landscape of Aylesbury Vale in the distance, combines a variety of media; a chalk emulsion base, spray paint, oil paint, gouache and watercolour pencil. Each has a subtle textural role in capturing the essence of the landscape and the sky above. On a hot, hot day, the strange forms of the steep sided valley dropping away began to seem like waves with the brushstrokes tracing the human pathways up the gorge.
