Orford Quay is found at the end of a road bordered by houses which evoke a long history (including a strange legend of a wild man of the sea once caught in a net and imprisoned in the castle). The Quay looks out over the River Alde to Orford Ness, now a National Nature Reserve populated with wildlife – a peaceful haven. It is home to now ruined buildings once used for top-secret defence and atomic weapons research up to the Cold War."
