Jane Hewlett
Jane is a Suffolk-based artist working from her studio overlooking the River Deben in Woodbridge. Her practice is closely informed by the surrounding landscape, which provides a constant source of inspiration and observation.
A defining aspect of Jane’s work is the richly textured surfaces she creates as a foundation for her paintings. She applies up to seven layers of hand-made rabbit skin gesso to her panels, building a distinctive surface that allows for a strong impasto quality. This meticulous preparation enhances the luminosity of her palette, giving the colours a particular clarity and depth.
